Recent research from the USA has been reported by ENT-UK stating that a new form of tinnitus treatment shows promise. At present the best forms of treatment include tinnitus retraining therapy (a form of cognitive behavioural therapy) and the use of hearing aids. The recent research looked at the use of in-ear noise generators which are worn whilst asleep at night. The noise generators mimic the sound frequency that a patient hears as tinnitus. Results were encouraging but NO comparison was made with standard treatments so its impossible to say how effective the new treatment is.
